Sometimes You Go to War With The Rules You've Agreed To
In this campaign season's extensive collection of quotes-that-make-one-wonder-what-someone's-been-smoking, a nod must surely be given to Hillary Clinton's recent "If we had the same rules as the Republicans, I'd be the nominee by now."

But she's right. The Republicans allot most of their delegates in primary election states as "winner take all", while the Democrats allot delegates proportionally according to voting totals. If the Democrats had used winner-take-all instead, Hillary would have gotten all the delegates from almost all of the hightst-population states, including Florida, Texas, California, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Massachusetts. She might very well have collected enough delegates to assure herself of the nomination.

We'll never know what percentage of the vote Sen. Clinton would have gotten in Michigan if Edwards and Obama had been on the ballot. I live in Michigan, and I don't count her 55% of the primary vote as a victory. I count it as a rigged election.

Think of it as Jesse Jackson's Revenge. He was the one (well, one of the more influential ones) who had the Dems change to these rules in the 80s.

Personally, I don't mind small-d-democracy actually taking place. The goppies are doing it wrong.

Jesus wept. That's right there with the claim that "Bush got a majority in the 2000 election, if you don't count the black vote."
